Ahead of Intelligent Health (13-14 September 2023, Basel, Switzerland), we asked Mostafa Ajallooeian, Engagement Director, Senior Data Scientist at Unit8 SA, his thoughts on the future of AI in healthcare.
Do you think the increased usage or Generative AI and LLMs will have a dramatic impact on the healthcare industry and, if so, how?
Use of GenAI in health sector is going to be very impactful, even if it would not be directly visible. Healthcare can benefit from improved medications and treatments, but also from improved processes. GenAI will have its impact on the process part for sure. A few examples include: finding relevant information and cross-references more efficiently, helping form scientifically-substantiated opinions faster, and making insights into trials more encompassing.
If you could solve any global health problem in the world with AI, what would it be? What do you think will be the biggest impact of AI and tech in the healthcare sector in the next 5 years?
– Better and more available medications
– Improved/novel treatments
– Improved and faster diagnosis
– Further enabling professionals take informed and detailed decisions faster and more accurately
What’s your biggest fear around the application of AI/tech in the healthcare field?
When using AI systems it might become appealing to neglect the importance of human-in-the-loop validation and fact-checking. It is important to remember that AI is just another technological tool which should be used to empower the expert, and the human experts are still having the same significant role they have today.
