The Harry Potter franchise holds the hearts of many moms-to-be. Its characters and magical world have provided inspiration for baby showers, clothing, name ideas, or nursery decor. Parents who want to use Harry Potter as a way to announce their pregnancy can check out these adorable ideas.
Mischief Managed
Mischief has certainly been managed when a baby is on the way! This was a phrase characters would say to let the magical Marauders Map fade away after use, keeping it hidden and mysterious. Once the knowing witch or wizard had accomplished their goal with the map they would recite “mischief managed” and it would turn the parchment blank again.
This “punny” way of announcing a baby is versatile enough for Harry Potter fans to delight in but also straightforward enough that Muggles can understand. The mischief managed by the parents-to-be has resulted in a precious bundle of joy. Great news!
Accio Baby!
This is a popular phrase we’ve seen with Harry Potter-inspired announcements. It involves one of the most well-known spells in the series, the summoning charm as a way to announce a baby is coming. “Accio Baby!” is used as someone might use to summon a TV remote, for example. A wave of your wand and the word Accio would bring you what you’ve asked for.
We love how this particular announcement used many other magical details from the series, including miniature characters, an owl, and Hogwarts stationery.
To Be Sorted
This onesie announces the exciting pregnancy news with a Sorting hat image and message that baby is expected to go through the Sorting process on baby’s due date. This is an iconic occurrence in the Harry Potter storyline: new students to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are assigned to one of four Houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Each House is uniquely different and will guide a student’s experience and character-building at Hogwarts. A magical Sorting Hat is placed on the student’s head to discern their innermost qualities and make the call on which House they belong to. Their designated House becomes a part of their identity.
Most Harry Potter-loving adults have taken online tests to know which House they are part of, too, and continue to claim it. This announcement would clue us in that the soon-to-be-parents are Team Gryffindor.
We Solemnly Swear We Were Up To No Good
This clever nod toward baby’s conception uses a favorite phrase from the series. Saying “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good” is an incantation that would bring a magical map to life from a piece of blank paper–the Marauder’s Map. By being up to no good, something magical was created, and the parents admitting to it can bring a chuckle from adults that are both familiar with the Harry Potter franchise or aren’t.
It’s clear enough that anyone should be able to understand this type of announcement with the saying and the positive pregnancy test.
Another Weasley
Ron Weasley fans, unite! Harry Potter’s best friend, Ron Weasley, was a favorite character for many. His loyalty and kind heart were unquestionably charming–as well as his family. Ron’s giant family consisted of his parents and their seven children. Yes, seven. The Weasleys welcomed the lead character Harry with open arms, and Ron’s siblings all had endearing personalities that brought a spark to the story.
It’s funny to think of another Weasley being added to the mix, which makes this choice of announcement a humorous one.
A Little Witch Or Wizard Is On The Way
Wizardkind was defined by the Ministry of Magic: a male human with magical abilities is a wizard, and a female human with magical abilities is a witch. Lovers of the wizarding world of Harry Potter would differentiate their bundle of joy this way instead of a Muggle–a human without magical abilities who was also not born into any kind of magical family. They are almost always non-aware of magic existing.
This couple took advantage of being at the Hogwarts Castle replica with a wand as a great way to announce on social media, but we’ve seen messages with the same sentiment on onesies or a message board, too.
The options are seemingly endless when it comes to Harry Potter-themed messaging. We haven’t even mentioned Quidditch, golden Snitches, the Patronus Charm, the Hogwarts Express, brooms, the Owl Postal Service, or the intricacies of magical titles and bloodlines. It’s a beloved series for a reason–the level of detail and creativity remains unmatched all these years later.
This generation of parents grew up with this magical world deep inside our imaginations, and it only seems natural to summon its charm to make a baby announcement uniquely personal.
